Interior design is where the bones of a room meet the way you actually live in it. At In Its Place, this is the work of pulling a space apart and putting it back together in service of how the home feels to be inside.
Where decorating styles what’s already there, design begins one step earlier. Think layout, proportions, the way each room connects to the next. We start with a long conversation about how you use your home. Where mornings happen. Where guests gather. Where you actually want to sit and read after work. Those answers shape every decision that follows. From there we work the plan, with space planning and furniture layouts and finish palettes and lighting schemes, plus the small architectural moves that quietly change how a room reads. Built-ins, niches, paneling, a relocated doorway. We work with trusted contractors and trades, source from a deep bench of vendors, and shepherd every detail through to install. The result should feel cohesive rather than collaged.
Our work is rooted in restraint.
We choose fewer, better things. We like materials that age gracefully, things like natural wood, stone, linen, plaster, brass. We design rooms that look complete on day one and look better on year ten. There’s no signature look so much as a signature approach. Quiet. Warm. Considered. Made for the people who live there.
Whether it’s one room you’ve been stuck on for years or a whole home you’re ready to reimagine, In Its Place brings a calm hand and a clear eye to the work. The goal is never a magazine photograph. It’s a home that earns its keep every single day.
