Interior Decorating

Styled reading nook

Interior decorating is the layer on top of organization. Once a room works, this is how it gets to feel like yours.

We work mostly with people who have a house full of furniture they like fine but a feeling that nothing quite fits together. The walls are bare or too busy. The lighting is wrong. Two rooms have the same rug from the same store. We come in and fix the relationship between the pieces. Shiran leads every project; she grew up around Middle Eastern interiors, where pattern and color are treated very differently than they are in most American homes, and that shows up in how she approaches a room.

The first visit is about looking. We open closets and ask what you actually use. We listen to what’s been bothering you. Then we put together a plan: what stays, what moves, what gets re-covered, what’s worth buying new.

Whole house or one room — most clients start with the room that’s been driving them craziest.

Questions

A few things people ask.

What's the difference between decorating and design?
Design starts with the bones of a room — layout, proportions, lighting plans, sometimes architectural moves. Decorating works with the room as it stands and resolves what's inside it: furniture placement, textiles, art, color, the small choices that pull a space together.
Do I have to buy all new furniture?
Almost never. Most projects begin by editing what you already own and figuring out what's worth keeping, re-covering, or moving to another room. Anything we add is sourced to fill specific gaps.
Can you decorate a single room?
Yes. Most clients start with the room that's been bothering them longest — a living room that won't cohere, a bedroom that feels unfinished. Whole-house projects are usually phased one or two rooms at a time.
Do you work with my existing art and heirlooms?
Yes, and we prefer it. Pieces with history give a room something that catalog-sourced rooms can't fake. We'll work them into the plan rather than around them.
